first_imgBORACAY – Boat commuters from Caticlanjetty port going to this fame-island resort should brace themselves as theCaticlan Boracay Transport Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CBTMPC) will now charge higherboat fare starting next month. CBTMPC is shifting from wood to technologically-advanced hull materials for faster, efficient, and resilient fiber-reinforced plastic boats. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN) CBTMPC is also charging a charterrate of P1,000 from 6 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. for one-way trip to Boracay Island forthe first 10 passengers and P30 regular rate for additionalpassengers. For night time, chartered trip will cost P2,000 from 6 p.m. to10 p.m. and P2,500 from 10 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.  Passengers with discounted cards will only pay fare of P25 from 6 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and P30 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.   The fare hike will counter rising fueland maintenance costs of fiberglass-made boats of the cooperative – thesole public boat transport group operating the Caticlan to Boracay Islandroute. Tourists, residents and guests, who will disembark to Tambisaan port or Cagbanport in Boracay Island from mainland Malay, will pay P30 from the previous P25from 6 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. center_img Boat commuters will be charged P40 from6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and P50 from 10 p.m. to 5:45 a.m.  Last year, a notice for change for passenger rate was filed by CBTMPC chairman Godofredo Sadiasa and duly approved by Maritime Industry Authority in Iloilo City. These wooden-hulled passenger boats are the main transportation mode between Caticlan to Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.
